UAA gymnasts schooling opposition in the classroom

The UAA gymnastics team ranked No. 7 nationally in GPA during the 2016 season, landing a spot on the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women's Scholastic All-America award list announced Thursday.

The Seawolves earned a cumulative GPA of 3.6441.

Nine Seawolves also earned NACGC/W honors for maintaining a year-long or cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

The UAA athletes earning individual honors over multiple seasons included senior Marie-Sophie Boggasch (4 times), senior Simone Penker (4) and junior Julia York (3) — all three with 4.0 GPAs.

First-time individual honorees included senior Sariaye Fishburn (4.0 GPA), sophomore Emily Ramberg (4.0), sophomore Madeleine Arbuckle (3.92), sophomore Morgan Ross (3.86), junior Kelsy Konkright (3.80) and freshman Morgan Colee (3.59).

No other Mountain Pacific Sports Federation team finished in the top 20 in the NACGC/W Scholastic All-America team standings.

Boise State topped all teams with a 3.8087 GPA.
