Streaking UAA volleyball team rises two spots to No. 10 in Division II

The streaking UAA volleyball team, which Tuesday can raise its winning streak to a school record-tying 14 matches, on Monday climbed two spots to No. 10 in the Division II national poll.

The Great Northwest Athletic Conference-leading Seawolves (14-1, 4-0 GNAC), fresh off road wins at Western Washington and Simon Fraser, play two more conference matches on the road this week. UAA plays at UAF (2-9, 1-3 GNAC) on Tuesday and at Montana State-Billings (1-12, 0-4 GNAC) on Saturday.

The Seawolves have won 13 straight matches, one short of the school record they set last season, when they won their first 14 matches.

UAA has won its last 11 matches against rival UAF.

Also Monday, UAA senior middle blocker Erin Braun was named the GNAC's Defensive Player of the Week.

Braun in two wins last week averaged 1.43 blocks per set and 3.0 kills per set. The conference award is the third of Braun's career and the second for a UAA player this season. Sophomore libero Kaya Militante-Amper was named Defensive Player of the Week earlier this month.
