Mantha sets UAA career saves record in loss at Colorado College

Goaltender Olivier Mantha became UAA's career leader in saves, but he couldn't save the Seawolves from a 3-2 loss to Colorado College in a Saturday nonconference hockey matchup.

Mason Bergh's hat trick lifted the Tigers (3-1-0) to their second win over UAA in two days in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The forward notched one goal in each period, two of them coming on power plays.

UAA kept pace in the first period, striking first on a Tad Kozun power-play goal and firing 11 shots to the Tigers' 13.

But in the second and third periods, UAA mustered only seven shots to 28 by the Tigers, who owned a 12-2 shot advantage in the third period and a 41-18 advantage for the game.

UAA freshman defenseman Cameron Trott delivered the Seawolves' second power-play goal 14 minutes into the third period, but the Seawolves couldn't muster enough offense to complete the comeback. Trott also earned an assist on Kozun's goal.

UAA finished 2-for-7 on the power play and Colorado College was 2-for-5.

Mantha pocketed 38 saves and owns 2,645 for his career. He passed Paul Krake, who finished his career in 1992 with 2,637 saves.

UAA returns to Sullivan Arena this week for the first game of the Governor's Cup against UAF (0-3-1) on Friday. The Seawolves and Nanooks play each other six times this season.
