2 UAA newcomers land preseason men’s basketball honors

Two UAA men's basketball have yet to don their Seawolves jerseys, but they're already receiving accolades from Great Northwest Athletic Conference coaches.

Senior transfers Jacob Lampkin and D.J. Ursery, both from the University of the Pacific, earned spots on the preseason all-conference team Friday.

The pair are part of UAA's 12 newcomers that will try to replace the departure of All-American Suki Wiggs and four other Seawolves starters this season.

They were the only newcomers named to the league's preseason team.

At 6-foot-9, 235 pounds, Lampkin was the fifth-leading scorer for the Tigers last season, averaging 6.4 points per game before an injury sidelined him after 24 games. Lampkin scored 18 points against national runner-up Gonzaga.

Ursery, a 6-4, 190-pound guard, averaged 6.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game and scored in double figures six times last season.

UAA makes its exhibition debut at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, when it faces the Seawolf alumni team at the Alaska Airlines Center. Admission is free.
