UAA holds off Holy Names in men’s basketball

A trio of newcomers and one of the team's few veterans helped the UAA men's basketball team hold off Holy Names University 63-55 Friday night at the Alaska Airlines Center.

It was the first win of the season over a fellow Division II team for the Seawolves, who snapped a two-game losing streak.

The Seawolves enjoyed significant contributions from their three Division I senior transfers from the University of the Pacific. Jacob Lampkin racked up 17 points and 14 rebounds, D.J. Ursery scored a team-high 19 points and Maleke Haynes supplied eight points and eight assists.

Another 12 points and six rebounds came from Drew Peterson, a senior who redshirted last season but played two seasons ago.

UAA shot 46.9 percent to ward off the Hawks (1-2) of the PacWest Conference, who shot 36.4 percent. Lampkin shot 8 of 12 and Ursery was 9 of 17.

The Seawolves outscored the Hawks 14-5 at the foul line, an effort led by Haynes' 6-for-6 shooting.

Alonzo Taylor (20 points) and Marcelas Perry (13 points, 8 assists) powered Holy Names.

The teams meet again Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
