Undefeated UAA women’s basketball team rolls to another victory

Showing no signs of a post-Shootout letdown, the undefeated and second-ranked UAA women's basketball team opened conference play Thursday by trouncing Central Washington 70-58 at the Alaska Airlines Center.

In their first game since winning the GCI Great Alaska Shootout more than a week ago, the Seawolves led from start from finish and benefited from contributions from all 12 players.

Hannah Wandersee dropped in a game-high 17 points and Tara Thompson added 12 on 4-of-5 shooting to lead UAA.

Eleven players scored points for the Seawolves in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference game. Ten grabbed rebounds, eight handed out assists and seven had steals.

Kian McNair had four of UAA's 12 steals, Sala Langi had seven of its 39 rebounds and Yazmeen Goo and Rodericka Ware each had four of its 20 assists.

The Seawolves dashed to a 20-12 lead after the first quarter and were up 42-29 at the half. Their lead stretched to as many as 23 points in the fourth quarter.

Central Washington (3-4 overall, 0-1 GNAC) got double-figure scoring from Jasmin Edwards (13 points) and Beverly Verduin (12) but couldn't overcome 24 turnovers.

The Seawolves continue conference play Saturday with a 7 p.m. game against Northwest Nazarene at the Alaska Airlines Center.
