Alaska Airlines ups airfare war ante with $299 roundtrip to LA

There's no rest for the Air Fare Warrior. That's how it feels the morning of Alaska Day. Earlier in the week, we had some great deals to Atlanta and Phoenix. They came and went, with a few lucky travelers snagging substantial savings.

Now comes Alaska Airlines with good news for California travelers: the airline is adding a daylight nonstop flight (11:30 a.m. departure) from Anchorage to LAX on April 8, 2013. To kick it off in style, the airline is offering tickets for $299 roundtrip between April 8 and May 28, 2013. It's a great deal -- and travelers have until Oct. 25 to nail down dates and purchase tickets.

The new service turns up the heat on competitor jetBlue, which announced the resumption of its seasonal Anchorage-Long Beach service on May 17, 2012. Introductory prices start at $327 roundtrip.

On June 2, Alaska Airlines will relaunch its seasonal nonstop from Anchorage to LAX. It's a red-eye, departing at 12:45 a.m.

I had the chance to visit Alaska's remodeled Terminal 6 at LAX last month. Here's the video:
