Video: Pumpkin weigh-off at the Alaska State Fair

Dave "Grim Reaper" Iles of North Pole won the 12th annual Alaska's Midnight Sun Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off on Tuesday at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer.

Iles' pumpkin, "Reaper's Keeper," weighed 1,231.5 pounds.

"You can always tell a rough idea how much the pumpkins weigh, but you never know until you get them on the scale," he said. "There's always a chance there's a bad spot on it that will disqualify it."

Dale Marshall of Anchorage, last year's winner, returned this year with a 1,172-pounder.
