The 49th Estate is our answer to MTV's "Cribs," a weekly tour of Alaska homes and interviews with their owners.

Musher Martin Buser and his wife Kathryn Chapoton just moved into their new home, over six years in the making. With an eye towards balance and uniqueness, their home is designed to focus the attention on the natural vistas that stretch for hundreds of miles on every side.

Overlooking their old home and their Happy Trails Kennels, the Buser-Chapotons' new house is a bit over 2,000 square feet, with a compact feel that complements the multiple decks that spread away from the house. Little features like LED lights in the kitchen countertops and brick work that will create small waterfalls when it rains or snows show the attention to detail in the construction of the house.
