3,600 without power in Wasilla; crews on scene

Update: Shortly before 7:30 p.m., power began coming back online for some customers, though it has not been completely restored.

A power outage in Wasilla has left thousands without power.

Matanuska Electrical Association said that 3,600 people in Wasilla lost power Thursday night when an electrical arrester failed and caused a substation to go offline.

Spokesman Kevin Brown said the outage affected a large swath of western Wasilla, with reports of power loss down the Parks Highway through most of the town's commercial center.

The affected Herning Substation is located near central Wasilla, east of the Knik-Goose Bay Road.

Brown said crews are on scene at the substation now. He said the fix can be corrected "quickly," and that power should be restored within a few hours.
