Black bear cub spotted inside Bartlett High

KTVA reports that a black bear cub has been spotted inside Bartlett High in Anchorage.

At 1:45 pm Wednesday, Anchorage police responded to a call by two workers installing multimedia equipment that a black bear cub was inside the school. The workers spotted another cub in the woods next to the school, and believe a sow could also be lingering nearby.

Police and Fish and Game officials have now walked through Bartlett High without finding the cub. Multiple doors are open due to construction at the school, and officials say the cub could have easily bolted through one of multiple exits.

Anita Shell, Crime Prevention Specialist at the Anchorage Police, told Alaska Dispatch that nobody was injured, and any follow up on the issue would be conducted by Fish and Game.

Barlett High is located off the Glenn Highway, at 1101 N. Muldoon Road in Anchorage.

Bear encounters abound in Anchorage this summer; three bears have already been killed, and several people have been mauled.
