Medicinal Arctic herb: Alaska's next (legal) cash crop?

According to APRN, Rhodiola rosea is a hardy Arctic herb with medicinal properties that is in demand around the world for herbal supplements and teas, but it doesn't yet have a significant commercial supply, and it grows well in Alaska. Farmers in Alberta, Canada, have already started growing it commercially, but there's still unmet demand. The plant was showcased in Palmer this week at the Alaska Growers Produce Conference by a physician with a passion for horticulture who envisions Alaska being a global center for its production. One long-time agricultural co-operative agent said he had his doubts, but the weight of research behind the presentation convinced him and many in the audience of the plant's potential.
