Missing Alaska woman's remains discovered along Arctic coast

Police have announced that the remains of a woman found near Barrow have been identified as those of Eliza Mae Simmonds. Simmonds was reported missing in May.

The North Slope Borough Police Department received a report on July 4 that human remains had been found along the coast near Barrow.

Police officers were flown to the location, about seven miles south of Barrow, where they recovered the remains of a then-unidentified woman.

The body was transported to Barrow and then to the Alaska State Medical Examiner's Office in Anchorage, for autopsy and identification.

Anyone with information regarding Simmonds' disappearance or death was asked to contact the North Slope Borough Police Department.
