National Day of Service will take place on Saturday all around the country as a way to honor the life and legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through volunteer work, outreach and community service. Plenty of opportunities exist out there, in addition to the following, for Alaskans to lend a helping hand to those in need:

In Anchorage

  • Knit, Sew or Donate to help newborns in need
  • Help out at Covenant House Alaska
  • Care packages for female soldiers overseas with Alaska Veterans Organization for Women and YWCA
  • Comfort Kits for the Anchorage Red Cross
  • Afternoon Opportunity at the Anchorage Food Bank
  • In the Mat-Su Valley

  • Wasilla Day of Service
  • Willow Public Library Shakedown
  • In Fairbanks

  • Stone Soup Cafe
  • AmpleHarvest.org - Ending Hunger and Food Waste in Your Community
  • For other areas around the state check in with the National Day of Service website and find an event or project near you and, if you can't find one, you can always start one.
