Want to attend the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout, but can't afford a flight to Anchorage?
The Alaska Legislature has you covered. Starting at 12:01 p.m. Wednesday, fans who purchase Shootout general admission ticket packages ($120, plus a $7 processing fee) can apply for complimentary round-trip airfare to Anchorage, according to a press release.
The state-funded program is expected to accommodate over 1,500 people from the following communities: Barrow, Bethel, Cordova, Dillingham, Fairbanks, Homer, Juneau, Kenai, Ketchikan, King Salmon, Kodiak, Kotzebue, Nome, Petersburg, Sitka, Valdez, Wrangell and Yakutat.
This year's tournament will be televised on CBS, for the first time in five years.
The program is expected to have an economic impact of approximately $2 million to the Anchorage area. The program will be administered through USTravel, with flights available from Era Alaska, Pen Air and Alaska Airlines.
