Surprise, Bristol Palin: A few Alaskans enjoy bidets, too

Don't tell Bristol Palin, but there appears to be a bidet or two or more in Alaska. There is even, heaven forbid, a bidet in that outpost called Fairbanks and in Cantwell. Yes, Cantwell, the widespot along the George Parks Highway between Fairbanks and Anchorage.

Bristol Palin's new reality show -- "Bristol Palin: Life's a Tripp" -- debuted on Lifetime this week and Palin, as the Palins do, was out there telling America all about Alaska and its shortage of "funny fountains" as some hicks from the sticks might take a bidet to be.

What exactly is a bidet, you ask? It's essentially a fountain that bathes the genitals and anal region after using the restroom. Bidets have enjoyed much more popularity in other countries and cultures than they ever did in the U.S., and were considered more sanitary than using paper to clean oneself.

Turns out Bristol Palin was surprised by the prevalence of bidets in Los Angeles.

"... 'There's a ton of bidets in this (Los Angeles) house, and I don't think there's one bidet in all of Alaska,'" she said in the show's premier. The line was picked up by an ABC News blogger.

As to the younger Palin's claim "I don't think," there can be little argument, but obviously none of the show's producers thought it worthwhile to do a quick Google search on Alaska properties for sale that include undercarriage-rinsing bidets.
