Suspect nabbed in beating of woman at homeless camp

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that Rick Allen, 57, has been arrested for assaulting Ellen Florence Juneby Rada, 58, at a homeless camp in Fairbanks. Rada was found unconscious on June 28 with life-threatening injuries. Allen has been arrested on a charge of second-degree murder, police detective Peyton Merideth told the News-Miner. He was identified as a suspect through witness statements.

The assault on Rada contributed to the death of another unlikely victim, her 71-year-old brother, Isaac Juneby, a revered elder from Eagle. Juneby had traveled to Anchorage because Rada was on life support in the hospital. Juneby was killed in a car crash about a week ago.

Ellen Rada died on Sunday in Anchorage as a result of her injuries. A memorial service was held for Rada and Juneby on Monday at the Chief David Salmon Tribal Hall in Fairbanks.
