James Devinn Thomas was indicted by an Anchorage grand jury on Friday for the murder of Clinton Reeves, the 24-year-old Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson airman killed in early May outside Alaska's largest city.
One of the 11 counts against Thomas, a fellow airman, allege that he demonstrated "an extreme indifference to the value of human life."
Reeves body was found May 8 in a neighborhood ditch above Skyline Road in Eagle River, a suburb of Anchorage. He had been missing since he failed to report to duty April 23, the day his abandoned rental car was found on a street in Anchorage's Mountain View neighborhood. Reeves rental vehicle, a 2012 Dodge Avenger, was found at 309 McCarrey St. with his personal effects still inside.
The next day, Thomas, 24, was charged with six counts of evidence tampering. The charges filed against him Friday contend he used force or the threat of force to steal property from Reeves. Among the items he's alleged to have destroyed, altered, concealed or hidden to hinder investigators include a loveseat, a couch, clothing, rags and a vehicle.
His bail was set at $100,000 cash Friday, with a third-party custodian required for his release. Thomas is scheduled to be arraigned in Alaska Superior Court Tuesday afternoon.
The Anchorage Police Department worked with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations on the case.
