Ultimate Fishing Town USA: Homer vs. Seward

It's heating up for a big fight between the City of Homer and the City of Seward in this year's Ultimate Fishing Town USA competition. As of Friday morning, Homer is in the top Pacific Northwest spot with approximately 4,900 votes. Seward is in second with about 4,100 votes. Voting ends May 2. The top two towns from all seven regions will advance to the finals. Finals voting runs from May 10-31.

Seward and Homer will be faced with tough competition. Both the Northeast and the Southeast categories have racked up an impressive amount of votes: Over 8,000 for Gladstone, Mich., and a whopping 24,000 for Waddington, N.Y. Seward is fighting back with a special Seward Fishing Town USA meeting from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Monday May 2 and May 9 in council chambers. Residents are welcome to bring ideas and suggestions on how to push up Seward votes.

The Ultimate Fishing Town USA winner receives a $25,000 donation for fishing-related causes, ten WaveSpin reels and broadcast on WFN and WFN HD. Second place receives a $5,000 donation and third, a $2,500 donation. Last year's competition targeted a Canadian fishing town, and Port Alberni on the west coast of Vancouver Island, BC, won. Votes can be cast at www.wfnfishingtown.com in four time slots per day.
