Alaska cheer squad performs during halftime of Holiday Bowl on New Year’s Eve

Sharp-eyed Alaskans watching the Holiday Bowl this afternoon may get a chance to spot some sharp-dressed Alaskans.

About 30 members of the Alaska South Central Pop Warner cheerleading squad will perform during halftime of the Utah-Northwestern college football game, which kicks off at 3 p.m. on FS1.

About half the girls are members of the Eagle River Panthers Pop Warner cheer squad, according to Panthers cheer commissioner Haylee Donovan, who accompanied the squad to San Diego for the festivities. The rest of the squad hails from Anchorage and Mat-Su, she said.

Donovan said the cheerleaders, who range in age from 8 to 13, also marched in the Holiday Bowl Parade earlier Monday. She said the squad will be wearing silver uniforms with maroon sleeves. Each of the team members learned an eight-minute dance routine for the halftime show.

“They are the youngest girls here and are doing amazing!” Donovan wrote in an email about the team.
