Memorial Day commemorations are set for Monday in Anchorage and Mat-Su

Veterans Memorial, Delaney Park Strip: A one-hour event Monday at the Veterans Memorial in downtown Anchorage, with patriotic music from the 9th Army Band and laying of wreaths. Speakers will include U.S. Alaskan Command Deputy Commander Maj. Gen. Peter Andrysiak, Sen. Dan Sullivan, Gov. Mike Dunleavy and acting Anchorage Mayor Austin Quinn-Davidson. Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery: Families will be visiting the Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery on Monday. Memorial services will be conducted by the Pioneers of Alaska and the American Legion in their respective tracts. Children under 12 must have adult supervision while on the grounds. No games, tents, food serving or pets are allowed on the grounds. Open 8 a.m.-8 p.m. (535 E. Ninth Avenue)

Fort Richardson National Cemetery, JBER: There will be no formal ceremony Monday at Fort Richardson National Cemetery, according to the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson public affairs office. The cemetery will be open for visitors 8 a.m.-5 p.m. A small ceremony held Thursday at the cemetery can be viewed online. (Note: the cemetery is within an active military reservation; enter through a JBER military gate)

Veterans Wall of Honor, Wasilla: American Legion Susitna Valley Post 35 will host a ceremony at the Veterans Wall. Sen. Dan Sullivan will speak, the Mat-Su Special Olympics Bell Ringers will perform and there will be a rifle salute and sounding of taps. Begins at 1 p.m. (801 Wasilla-Fishhook Road, Wasilla).

Members of the public are invited to attend a barbecue at Legion Post 35 after the ceremony. Side dishes welcome for this community potluck. 2-5 p.m. (5050 Tweed Court, Wasilla)

Byers Lake, Mat-Su: The Alaska Vets Motorcycle Club will meet at Mary’s McKinley View Lodge — Mile 134 Parks Highway in Trapper Creek — at noon Sunday for a 12:30 p.m. ride to the Alaska Veterans Memorial at Byers Lake. The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. See Facebook for more details.

Sleeves Up for Summer Memorial Day Car Show, Anchorage: Fancy cars, entertainment, food and a drive-thru vaccination clinic at the Northway Mall parking lot noon-4 p.m. Monday. (The drive-thru clinic hours are from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.) (3101 Penland Parkway)
