Market gets some ‘awesome sauce’; seafood delivery service gets new name

It's time to Catch 49!

Catch 49, formerly Catch of the Season, provides Alaskans with responsibly harvested wild seafood by Alaska's small boat fishermen, delivered to areas from Homer to Fairbanks. The program, run through the Alaska Marine Conservation Council, is taking orders through Nov. 12 for delivery in advance of Thanksgiving.

David Fleming of Alaska Marine Conservation Council said they were launching the new name and logo as the result of a rebrand; it's the "Same great program, just a new name!"

Seafood lovers can select from Norton Sound red king crab, Kodiak jig rockfish, Barnacle kelp salsas and pickles and Homer Pacific halibut. AMCC works with local businesses to curate seasonal seafood offerings while helping stewardship-minded fishermen get a better price for their catch.

"We strive to have your catch processed and handled by independent, family-run processors," Fleming says.

Thankful Thursdays

Farm 779 will be at Thursday's market in The Mall at Sears with plenty of ferments and other good-for-the body choices.

"We will highlight our kefir reduction dips known as 'awesome sauce' and turmeric with black and red pepper," owner Julie Meer says. "Both pair nicely with our artisan almond cocktail loaves and work nicely as a great ketogenic alternative to high-carb, empty calorie holiday hors d'oeuvres. The reduction sauces also go nicely inside stuffed dates, on apple slices, or a spread for sourdough breads."

Meer says she also will have coconut kefirs, specialty krauts, cacao chip cookies, kombucha tea, kvass and body-care products.

Duane Clark will have zucchini relish, salsa, jams, carrots, potatoes, peppers, and grass-fed beef and yak. Also at the market will be Far North Fungi with oyster mushrooms.
