UAA unveils Great Alaska Shootout women's field

Three Division I women's basketball teams will make their GCI Great Alaska Shootout debuts in the annual four-team Thanksgiving week tournament, host UAA announced Monday.

The newcomers to the tournament at the Alaska Airlines Center are Binghamton (New York), Tulsa (Oklahoma) and Maryland Eastern Shore.

The Shootout will also undergo a change in format — instead of playing on consecutive days, there will be an off day between games.

Tulsa and Binghamton will play the early game on Tuesday, Nov. 21, and UAA will entertain Maryland Eastern Shore in the late game. Championship and consolation games are Thursday, Nov. 23. Game times will be announced later.

UAA, an elite Division II program, is the only team in the field coming off a winning season. The Seawolves went 30-2 overall and won the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title at 20-0. UAA is 133-26 (.836 winning percentage) in five seasons under coach Ryan McCarthy.

Binghamton of America East went 13-17 last season, Tulsa of the American Athletic Conference went 10-21, and Maryland Eastern Shore of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference went 13-16.

UAA has won the Shootout six times, most recently in 2009.
