North Pole man killed in chain saw accident

A North Pole man cutting trees on Monday was killed by a "severe chain saw" cut to his neck, Alaska State Troopers reported.

Robert J. Grill, 48, was found dead in the woods near his home off Cloverleaf Drive, the agency said. Troopers received the report about 5:30 p.m. that day.

"Investigation revealed Grill was cutting trees with a chain saw when an incident occurred. Grill suffered a severe chain saw cut to his neck which resulted in his death," the statement said.

There was no evidence of foul play, said Megan Peters, troopers spokesperson. A relative found Grill a few hours after he was last seen, she said.

Peters said she did not know exactly how the injury occurred.

The Alaska medical examiner's office has been contacted and an autopsy will be conducted, Peters said.
