Fairbanks snowmachiner killed in a head-on collision

A man died after his snowmachine collided with an SUV Tuesday on the Parks Highway southwest of Fairbanks, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers said Wesley Jennings, 52 of Fairbanks, was driving his snowmachine southbound on the "outside edge" of the Parks Highway northbound lane. Chun-Hsiung Hsu, 58 of Taiwan, was driving a Dodge Journey northbound on the highway, troopers said in a dispatch posted online Wednesday evening.

The snowmachine and SUV collided near mile 325.5 of the Parks Highway, roughly 30 miles southwest of Fairbanks, troopers said.

Troopers responded to the crash at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The sun had set in the area around 3:30 p.m.

Jennings was taken to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Troopers could not be immediately reached Thursday for additional information, including what factors investigators believe led to the head-on collision and the condition of the SUV driver.
