A motorcyclist has died of injuries sustained in a fiery collision in Eagle River Saturday night, the Anchorage Police Department said.

A man riding a BMW motorcycle collided with a truck in the 10900 block of Old Glenn Highway at about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, the APD said Sunday.

"The motorcycle burst into flames on impact and slid across the highway," the APD said in a statement.

Multiple passers-by pulled the driver from the motorcycle and "extinguished the flames on his body," police said.

The motorcyclist was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

Both lanes of the Old Glenn Highway near Artillery Road remained closed until 3 a.m. as police processed the scene.

The collision was the third fatal motorcycle accident in four days in Southcentral Alaska.

On Wednesday, a man died when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into an oncoming car near where Boundary Avenue meets Turpin Street in East Anchorage.

On Thursday, a motorcyclist died in a collision with a pickup truck in a neighborhood in Sterling, on the Kenai Peninsula.
