Anchorage man dies in motorcycle collision with Kansas police vehicle

An Anchorage man died in Kansas last week after his motorcycle collided with a police vehicle, according to news reports.

Tommy Roe, 62, died on Friday, The Kansas City Star reported. He had been riding a 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle on U.S. Route 24 in the city of Tonganoxie, Kansas, on Friday evening when the accident happened.

Roe was traveling west. A police offer with the Tonganoxie Police Department, driving a 2015 Ford Explorer, was headed the same direction, according to news station KSN News.

The officer turned on his lights in order to pull over a vehicle heading eastbound, reports said.

"The officer made a U-Turn in front of the motorcycle, causing the motorcycle to hit the police vehicle," The Kansas City Star said.

Roe was ejected from the motorcycle. He died of his injuries at a Kansas hospital, the report said. He was not wearing a helmet. Kansas police said that the crash was under investigation, reports said.

A GoFundMe set up for Roe's funeral expenses had $1,340 donated on Tuesday afternoon. The page says that Roe was heading to Arlington National Cemetery to visit his parents when the collision took place.

Roe's daughter, Tesslyn Roe, said in a Facebook message that her father was a part of Alaska's motorcycle community and an Air Force veteran. He left behind three daughters and one sister, she said.
