Ex-convict on probation for child porn charges facing trial again

A federal grand jury indicted an Anchorage man Monday on a child pornography charge — the same crime for which he had recently been released from prison, according to federal prosecutors.

The indictment accuses Stuart Gregory Ravn, 30, of having possessed or accessed child pornography as of Oct. 23. The children depicted in the visuals were younger than 12, the indictment says. Ravn has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Ravn was previously convicted in July 2014 on 22 charges of possessing and distributing child pornography. He was sentenced to 69 months in prison, although state court records show he had been out on probation for at least a year when he was arrested again.

At an emotional sentencing in September 2014, Ravn said he had sought treatment for his compulsion to download child pornography. Prosecutors at the time said the images and videos Ravn possessed depicted children as young as toddlers, with some images involving instances of masochism and sadism.

Ravn’s new trial is scheduled to begin Jan. 14. If convicted, he will face a mandatory minimum 10-year sentence and a fine up to $250,000, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Anchorage.
