Bartlett High student arrested for threats as Hanshew Middle School gets new threat

Update 10:30 a.m. Wednesday: Another bathroom-wall threat was found Tuesday at Hanshew Middle School, the Anchorage School District said.

ASD spokeswoman Catherine Esary said Wednesday the school is taking extra safety measures while police investigate, including locking outside doors, locking a bathroom that doesn’t have camera coverage, and placing staff security in the halls.

Original Tuesday story:

Police have arrested a Bartlett High School student for threats written on a wall in a girl’s bathroom there, the latest arrest to come in a string of threats made against Anchorage-area schools.

The threat was discovered Friday morning. It alluded to a shooting directed at the school, its students and staff. Student resource officers reviewed surveillance video and interviewed several students, ultimately identifying a girl as the suspect.

On Monday, a student at Beigich Middle School was arrested for making similar threats on a bathroom wall.
