Man swung ax at gas station patrons before pursuit into woods, Anchorage police say

A man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly brandished an ax at a Midtown Anchorage gas station Monday evening.

Anchorage police received a report shortly after 10 p.m. about a man “swinging an ax at citizens” at the Holiday gas station at Old Seward Highway and Tudor Road, said police spokesman MJ Thim. When officers arrived, witnesses told them the man had run into the woods, Thim said.

Police arrested 51-year-old Jeffrey Patterson after pursuing him into the woods. Patterson is charged with multiple crimes, including third-degree assault, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment.
