Troopers: North Pole man threatened drivers with sledgehammer

A 24-year-old North Pole man was arrested Wednesday after he tried to run drivers off the road and attack them with a sledgehammer when they stopped, troopers said.

Sheldon Adams was first reported making the threatening gestures on Monday, according to an online dispatch posted Wednesday evening. Multiple people described a man driving a blue SUV, but troopers weren’t able to find anyone.

More reports came in Wednesday from Chena Pump Road, and troopers contacted Adams at that time, they said. He was arrested for three counts of third-degree assault and one count of third-degree criminal mischief.

He was jailed without bail at Fairbanks Correctional Center and scheduled for arraignment Thursday afternoon.
