Overdue snowmachiner found dead near Seward

A snowmachiner who was reported overdue in Seward on Monday was found dead near Bear Lake by search and rescue teams, troopers said.

Cody Slemp, 40, of Seward, was reported overdue around noon Monday and had not been seen since Sunday afternoon, according to an online statement from troopers.

The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center, Bear Creek Fire Department and other volunteers found him dead near Bear Lake just north of the city after about two hours of searching, troopers wrote.

Troopers did not immediately specify a cause of death for Slemp.
