Elderly couple killed in Sterling Highway crash near Soldotna

A crash on the Sterling Highway east of Soldotna killed an elderly couple Friday and injured the driver of another vehicle, according to Alaska State Troopers.

The crash occurred around Mile 90.5 of the Sterling Highway midday Friday, troopers said in an online report. Cedric Kyle, 81, was driving south in a 2006 Dodge Dakota with his wife, 83-year-old Wilma Kyle, when he lost control on the icy roadway, according to an investigation.

The Dodge slid into the oncoming lane, where Anchorage resident Jason Griner, 48, was driving north in a 2020 International tractor truck, troopers said. The vehicles collided and the Kyles died at the scene, according to troopers. Next of kin have been notified.

Griner was taken to Central Peninsula Hospital with minor injuries, troopers said.
