8-year-old boy killed in ATV rollover in Mat-Su

A young boy died Saturday after he was ejected during an ATV rollover on the Eska Mine Trail near Sutton, troopers said.

The rollover was reported around 5:15 p.m., troopers wrote in an online statement. The 8-year-old boy was a passenger in the ATV when it flipped about 7 miles up the trail, troopers said. It was not immediately clear how many other people were involved in the crash or if there were other injuries.

The boy was not wearing a helmet when the ATV flipped, troopers said.

LifeMed, Troopers and crews from Palmer and Butte fire departments responded, but the boy died of injuries from the crash, troopers said.

It was not immediately clear what may have caused the ATV to flip, but troopers said the investigation is ongoing.
