25-year-old woman found dead in Southwest Alaska village, troopers say

A 25-year-old woman was found dead in New Stuyahok Sunday, troopers said.

Troopers in the Dillingham office were notified Saturday around 10 p.m that Angelina Chunak had been missing for about a day, according to an online statement. Troopers were notified the next day that Chunak was found dead, the statement said.

Troopers and officials from the Alaska Bureau of Investigation traveled to New Stuyahok. The village of roughly 475 people is about 50 miles northeast of Dillingham.

The investigation is ongoing. Troopers have not said whether they are investigating the death as a homicide and a spokeswoman for the department said additional details are not yet available.
