Galena man drowns while trying to retrieve a loose boat, troopers say

A Galena man drowned Sunday morning in a slough off the Yukon River, troopers said.

Troopers were called to the Kala Slough around 9:40 a.m., Alaska State Troopers wrote in an online statement. Investigators believe 25-year-old Kevin Evans drowned while trying to retrieve his boat, which was floating away, troopers said. He was pulled underwater and did not resurface.

Galena Search and Rescue found Evans about an hour after crews began searching, troopers said.
