An avalanche is blocking the Seward Highway at milepost 45 near Summit Lake, state troopers reported Monday.
According to the Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, the avalanche is 200 feet wide by 4-6 feet deep. Workers were on the scene as of 6:30 p.m., the department wrote in a tweet.
“We need to bring more material down before the highway can be reopened safely. We’ll be working as quickly as we can, but anticipate the closure will extend to at least until 10 p.m.,” the department wrote.
