74-year-old Wasilla man fatally shot during moose hunt near Chicken

A 74-year-old man died Saturday after he was shot during a moose hunt near Chicken, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers were notified around 9:20 p.m. of a call for help from a satellite communication device stating someone had been shot about 8.5 miles from the Taylor Highway, troopers wrote in an online statement.

A U.S. Army helicopter crew responded to the area and transported Michael Easley of Wasilla to Fort Wainwright, troopers said. He was moved to a Fairbanks hospital and pronounced dead, according to troopers.

Troopers did not immediately provide any additional information about how the shooting occurred or if charges had been filed.

The investigation is ongoing, troopers said.
