Pedestrian suffers minor injuries in Midtown Anchorage hit-and-run

A vehicle struck a pedestrian Tuesday morning in Midtown Anchorage, then left the scene, police said.

The collision at Benson Boulevard and A Street was reported just before 9 a.m.

"A four-door tan sedan hit a pedestrian headed east on Benson," police spokeswoman Anita Shell said.

Police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro said in a statement that the pedestrian was in a crosswalk and had the right-of-way.

The pedestrian was injured but released by medics after an evaluation, according to officers on scene.

The sedan — described as beige or silver by Castro — is missing a right-side mirror, officer Noel Senoran said at the scene Tuesday morning. After striking the pedestrian, it was seen heading east down Benson, running red lights. It wasn't clear how fast the sedan was going when it hit the pedestrian.

Castro said previous reports that police had pursued the vehicle into Fairview were based on a series of calls reporting possible locations for the sedan.

"We had gotten a couple of different reports from people," Castro said. "We have not located the suspect vehicle in this case."
