Missing man located in Anchorage

Update, 6 p.m. Jan. 5: Anchorage police confirmed Daniel Manwarren is alive and in Anchorage. It was reported to police that he showed up at his place of employment on Thursday.

Original story: Police say the case of a missing Anchorage man, last seen at a local business more than two weeks ago, is now considered suspicious.

Daniel Manwarren, 26, was reported missing to police on Tuesday, according to an Anchorage Police Department statement. He was last seen where he worked, the Costco store on Dimond Boulevard, on Dec. 19.

"(Manwarren's) family has not heard from him since and have been unable to contact him," police wrote. "It is not normal for them to go so long without any contact from him."

APD spokeswoman Jennifer Castro told reporters Thursday that Manwarren's missing-persons case has been transferred from officers to detectives, after he failed to make routine calls to his loved ones on Christmas and his birthday. Manwarren has no criminal record and has no known health issues.

"We're just investigating whether anything criminal happened," Castro said. "It's like he's fallen off the face of the earth."

No specific evidence suggesting foul play has been found so far, Castro said, but police are concerned for Manwarren's safety based on his unusual lack of contact.

Nothing was missing from Manwarren's room, and police interviews with his family, colleagues and roommate haven't offered any indication of where he may have went.

"We're really hoping and depending on the community on this one," Castro said.

Anyone who has seen or had contact with Manwarren, described as 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a thin build, brown hair and hazel eyes, is asked to contact APD at 907-786-8900.
