Anchorage police respond to gunfire in home

Update, 4:12 p.m.: Police said that the man was taken into custody without incident and the streets would be reopened shortly.

Original story: Anchorage police shut down a stretch of West Dimond Boulevard between Arlene Street and Blackberry Street Tuesday afternoon to redirect traffic and pedestrians away from the home of a man they said was suicidal.

The incident began around 1:30 p.m. and was still going on after 3 p.m. Officers at the scene said the man had fired numerous shots. Police said he was alone in his home on 91st Avenue.

Around 3 p.m., the Anchorage police SWAT team was gearing up and mobilizing in the Skinny Raven parking lot near the home. More than two dozen officers were at the scene, according to Anchorage police spokeswoman Renee Oistad.
