A man died after being struck by a car Thursday evening in Midtown, Anchorage police said.

Police received a report of a pedestrian collision shortly after 7 p.m. near A Street and Benson Boulevard, according to a statement. A man was walking north across Benson, not in a crosswalk, when a Chrysler 200 heading east on Benson struck him, police said.

He died while being taken to a hospital, police said.

The woman driving the Chrysler fled the scene, according to police, but the car was later located with a damaged windshield in a nearby business parking lot. Police said officers found her inside the business and were interviewing the driver and witnesses.

No charges had been filed.
