UPDATE: Man and daughter he took from foster home found, Anchorage police say

UPDATE 9:45 a.m. Thursday:

Damon Demond Ward and his 3-year-old daughter have been found in the Government Hill area, Anchorage police said Thursday morning.

The daughter was safe, and Ward was taken into custody and was being questioned by investigators.

Anchorage police are seeking the public's help locating a man who they said illegally took his daughter from her foster home Wednesday evening.

Damon Demond Ward, 44, illegally removed his daughter Sophia Sakar, 3, from her foster home shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday, police said in an alert. Officers have not located either of them.

Ward has a felony warrant for escape, police said. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes, according to police.

In an Amber Alert, Sophia Sakar was described as being 3 feet tall, weighing 30 pounds, with black hair, black eyes and wearing a black coat with a purple shirt, blue pants and pink animal print boots. According to the Amber Alert, they were last seen near East Bluff Drive and Richardson Vista Road in Government Hill.

Police said early Thursday they had located the car Ward was driving. They asked anyone who has seen Ward or his daughter to call 911 immediately.
