A man driving a car with headlights off on the wrong side of the Glenn Highway near the Birchwood exits late Thursday died in a collision with an oncoming pickup truck and car, Anchorage police said.
The man's name was not immediately released by police, who were first notified of the wrong-way driver at 11:08 p.m.
"The preliminary investigation found the driver of a four-door sedan was traveling outbound on the Glenn Highway using the inbound lanes," according to a police statement released Friday morning. "The adult male driver struck a pickup truck head-on and then struck a car. He was declared dead at the scene."
A man and woman in the pickup were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Three men inside the second car were not injured.
The collision remains under investigation, police said.
