APD: Witnesses say man struck by vehicle ‘jumped into traffic’

A man was taken to a hospital after being hit by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon in East Anchorage, police said.

The collision was reported at 3:15 p.m., Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Renee Oistad wrote in an email.

Southbound lanes on Muldoon Road were shut briefly near DeBarr Road on Wednesday afternoon. By 4:10 p.m., the road was back open.

"It appears the pedestrian will survive but otherwise I do not know the severity of his injuries right now," Oistad wrote.

Multiple witnesses said the man "intentionally jumped into traffic," Oistad wrote.

"Until we speak with the pedestrian we will not know the motivation for his actions," she said.
