All lanes of traffic have been reopened on the Seward Highway, police said in an alert at 2:18 p.m. Friday.
Traffic heading southbound on the Seward Highway was being stopped near Girdwood as police investigate a vehicle crash, the Anchorage Police Department said in an alert at 12:47 p.m.
The collision involved an SUV and sedan, police spokeswoman Kendra Doshier wrote in an email.
During the closure, the Anchorage Fire Department was extricating a person from one of the vehicles, she said. "There is no indication of any life-threatening injuries as of right now," Doshier said.
Alex Boyd, assistant chief of the Anchorage Fire Department, said the Girdwood Fire Department responded first, at 12:10 p.m., and had requested help from Anchorage. Boyd said three units from Anchorage were on scene as of 12:46 p.m.
Both Anchorage and Girdwood crews had transported people involved in the accident to Anchorage hospitals, Boyd said.
"Southbound of the Seward Highway near Girdwood is closed until further notice, so drivers can expect delays and should plan accordingly. Tow trucks are on the way," Doshier said around 1:15 p.m.
