The cab driver killed in the collision was identified Monday by Anchorage police as Bruce L. Orton, 68.

Original story:

An Anchorage taxi driver was killed in a T-bone collision on the Old Seward Highway early Sunday morning, police said.

Police were called to the intersection of Old Seward Highway and 79th Avenue, near Dimond Boulevard, at 1:27 a.m. Sunday, the Anchorage Police Department said in a statement.

A red Mitsubishi Mirage was southbound on the highway when it T-boned a taxi driver who was pulling out from 79th Avenue, the APD said in a statement Sunday.

The male driver of the taxi was declared dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the taxi.

"It will not be known if drugs or alcohol were involved until toxicology results are received," police said in a statement.
