Dump truck knocks out power to hundreds in South Anchorage

Update 1 p.m. Tuesday:

Chugach Electric said in a Facebook post that power has been restored to all customers.

Original story:

A dump truck that “went through” power lines at East Dowling Road and B Street early Tuesday knocked out power to more than 1,200 Chugach Electric members, the utility said.

Power lines are on the ground, and Chugach as of 5:40 a.m. was asking the public to stay away from them, the company said in social media posts. The outage runs along Dowling between Arctic Boulevard and Lake Otis Parkway up to International Airport Road.

A crew is assessing and isolating the damage, Chugach said.

A 100-foot spruce tree on a power line also took out power in Girdwood to about 20 households on Crow Creek Road.

Crews continue to work in Whittier and Hope on outages in those towns, Chugach said.
