Pedestrian walking in roadway badly injured in collision, police say

A vehicle struck and badly injured a pedestrian who was walking in the street in South Anchorage early Saturday, police said.

Anchorage police said a vehicle was driving northbound in the 9200 block of the Old Seward Highway around 3 a.m. and collided with a man walking in left lane. He was taken to the hospital with what the police described as life-threatening injuries.

The driver, who wasn’t immediately identified, stopped and called 911, police said. The pedestrian wasn’t identified.

The area is a few blocks south of Dimond Boulevard.

"There is no intersection at the location where the collision occurred. There was no crosswalk. The involved driver was cooperative with police,” police said in an alert.

Northbound lanes were shut down between Lakewood Court and Scooter Avenue.
