Photos: Behind the scenes at the Alaska Zoo

The Alaska Zoo, which first opened its doors in August 1969, is celebrating its 50th anniversary on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with half-price admission and discounts on popcorn.

The zoo houses Arctic and sub-Arctic animals including polar bears, Amur tigers, wolves and lynx, and cares for orphaned and injured wildlife.
